Rockers Paramore and Lenny Kravitz, English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, alternative icons the Pixies, Creedence Clearwater Revival legend John Fogerty, and rapper Wale are among the acts that will appear at the 2015 Beale Street Music Festival. The 38th edition of fest runs from May 1-3 at Tom Lee Park.
Memphis in May officials confirmed the lineup of 60-plus acts. Among the other notable names are indie-folk act Band of Horses, roots-rockers the Avett Brothers and Wilco, Grammy nominated Irish rocker Hozier, and returning music fest favorites the Flaming Lips.
Others who were also confirmed include singer-songwriters St. Vincent, Ryan Adams and Jenny Lewis, funk, blues, and rap favorites George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Lecrae and G-Eazy, as well as rock acts Cage the Elephant and Breaking Benjamin.
Gary Bongiovanni, editor-in-chief of the concert industry’s leading journal, Pollstar, says that music fest’s effort to place a group of up-and coming acts in the upper echelon of the bill — including the likes of St. Vincent and Hozier — is a positive step. “Sounds like they’ve got a pretty well-rounded lineup this year, with enough new, hipper elements that it should attract a cross-section of people,” noted Bongiovanni.
